What to recycle and what not!

Please place all your recyclable items, as indicated below, in a bag and bring to church each Sunday and place at our drop-off point outside the church entrance.

Type Description Examples
r1 PET Polyethylene Terephthalate Water, fizzy drinks, some detergent, juice bottles, energy drinks
r1 PE-HD High Density Polyethylene Most detergents, milk, shampoo's etc, grocery bag, fruit and veg clear bags
r1 PVC Polyvinyl Chloride Very little available – NOT recyclable in PE currently
r1 PE-LD Low Density Polyethylene Film type plastic e.g. sliced bread, frozen veg, milk bags, plastic new appliances wrapped in, some bottle tops, etc.
r1 PP Polypropylene Ice-cream containers, some yoghurt/marg/feta, Tupperware, etc
r1 PS Polystyrene Must be rinsed
r1 Other Depending what it is, but generally NOT recyclable

PLASTIC
Look for the identification triangle (normally found at the bottom of item)
Please note: Items that are not numbered or is either a (3) or a (7) should be placed in your normal waste bin until a suitable recycling solution has been found.

Plastic NON- recyclable (not suitable)
  • Cling wrap and chocolate wrappers (not actually plastic) and pallet wrap, chips packets, sticky tape.


  • GLASS
  • Wine and beer bottles
  • Container Bottles & Jars such as jam, sauces, etc. (rinse bottles and lids – can leave lids on)
  • Glass not recyclable: Any ceramics, porcelain or china, Pyrex drinking glasses, window panes.


    METAL
  • Cooldrink and beer tins – can be crushed
  • Food tins (rinse tins and lids)
  • Empty Aerosol cans
  • Aluminium foil, clean aliminium food containers such a pie plates, etc.


  • TETRAPAK
  • Juice boxes
  • Long life milk containers


  • Other NONE recyclable
  • Sweet papers and chip packets; cling wrap, batteries, light bulbs, organic materials and waste, cellophane, nappies etc.


  • YOU CAN FURTHER ASSIST US IN THE FOLLOW WAYS:

  • Unscrewing the lids of PET bottles
  • Flatten all TetraPak and cardboard boxes
  • Please rinse
  • Yoghurt
  • ice cream containers
  • polystyrene meat trays
  • food tins, etc.
  • (This also ensures that you recycle bin at home does not smell)
